A
CALL TO ACTION
Railway Car Mechanics have suffered a serious
defeat at the hands of the railroad industry and the number
one cause of this defeat is the division of all railroad workers
into many craft unions, making us weak instead of strong.
TCU President Scardelletti surrendered the fighting tradition
of the Car Mechanic's Union in the RAILWAY CARMEN'S DIVISION
OF THE TCU over to the hands of an arbitrator who (surprise,
surprise) ruled with the Railroad Industry on the crucial
issue of health care. We know the story well. President Scardelletti
has refused to seriously pursue one BIG union for all railroad
workers, thus weakening us at the very foundation of all union
power. After destroying the grassroots organization of the
RAILWAY CARMEN'S DIVISION, SCARDELLETTI and his allies amongst
the upper ranks of the CARMEN'S DIVISION surrendered to the
Rail Industry, The Longshoreman and the Teamsters have won
big victories while we lost making it an obvious lie that
"this is the best we could do under the present circumstances."
Both the Teamsters and Longshoreman have one big union in
their industry, making them stronger.
THE STEEL WHEEL IS STUDYING AN OFFER BY
THE TEAMSTERS FOR ONE BIG UNION IN THE RAILROAD INDUSTRY THROUGH
A MERGER. WE ARE CAREFULLY STUDYING ALL THE DETAILS INVOLVED.
EXPECT FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS WEB SITE BY THE END OF
MARCH 2004.
WE MUST REGAIN AND REORGANIZE OUR GRASSROOTS
UNION ORGANIZATION IF WE ARE TO PREVENT FURTHER DEVASTATING
LOSES TO OUR STANDARD OF LIVING AND OUR ORGANIZATIONAL STRENGTH.
THE GREATEST PROBLEM IS OUR APATHY, LOW
LEVEL OF DISCIPLINE AND OUR ATTITUDE OF SURRENDER.
THE STEEL WHEEL WILL STRIVE TO BE AN ORGANIZING
CENTER FOR THIS RISING. STAY TUNED.
